As bright and bold in color, as the actual flower is modeled after, this Ari-Box brings the cempazuchitl to life! A cempazuchitl is a marigold. It is the official flower of the dead. The flower’s color and scent are meant to attract souls back from the dead to the ofrenda. Inspired by the Day of the Dead or Día de Muertos. you can find elements of the holiday within this item's decoration. Found dead center on the top of the box is a 3-D clay marigold. In paper form, various other brightly colored flowers surround the small clay sculpture. All panels along the exterior of this trinket box are decorated in the paper with brightly colored flowers. On the inside of the box, you will be delighted with brightly colored color blocking and alternating colored dots to give the edges of the box an added pop. Additionally, there is a red velvet bottom that was added to give an air of vintage inspiration.
A little bit about Dia De Los Muertos
The calavera, papel picado, and magrigolds hold a special significance for this Mexican holiday. Closely associated with All Saint's Day, Día de Muertos takes two full days to honor, celebrate, and lament loved ones and religious figures, and famous figures who have passed on. Uniting the living with those who have passed away, Día de Muertos has many traditions.
Every year, families decorate special altars with a variety of offerings (called ofrendas) to welcome those who have died. The holiday starts at midnight on Nov. 1 to honor children, and lasts for two days, honoring adults the following midnight, and everyone on the last day.
