Featuring hand-cut and poked papel picado that is glued along the exterior, this mini trinket box was inspired by the Day of the Dead or Día de Muertos. Found dead center on the top of the box is a calavera. On the inside of the box, you will be delighted to find a mirror as well as 6 two-dimensional marigolds along with the inner panels of the bottom portion of the box. Additionally, there is a red velvet bottom that was added to give an air of vintage inspiration.
A little bit about Dia De Los Muertos
The calavera, papel picado, and magrigolds hold a special significance for this Mexican holiday. Closely associated with All Saint's Day, Día de Muertos takes two full days to honor, celebrate, and lament loved ones and religious figures, and famous figures who have passed on. Uniting the living with those who have passed away, Día de Muertos has many traditions.
Every year, families decorate special altars with a variety of offerings (called ofrendas) to welcome those who have died. The holiday starts at midnight on Nov. 1 to honor children, and lasts for two days, honoring adults the following midnight, and everyone on the last day.
